Police in Cottonwood Heights responded to a situation on Tuesday February 12, 2020 where a 29 year old woman had unexpectedly gave birth on a sidewalk. The woman claims she didn’t know she was even pregnant and was just on her way to get a Papa Murphy’s pizza before she began to feel ill and pulled into a side street nearby and got out of her vehicle. Sergeant Gary Young was the officer who arrived on the scene along with paramedics and found the woman in distress while holding the new born.

Residents in the area have stated to police that they heard sounds of distress along with crying or screaming before they went outside their homes. A few of their neighbors were crowded around the woman, and called the police. After paramedics arrived the woman and the newborn were brought into the Intermountain Medical Center located in Murray. The woman and newborn are currently being treated in the NICU.
