On January 20, 2019, a 35 year-old man drowned while doing laps in our very own West Valley City public pool. According to Fire Department officials, the incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. at the West Valley Family Fitness Center. The man was doing laps when he went underwater for unknown reasons and never came up, said officials.

Lifeguards pulled him out and performed CPR until Fire officials arrived and continued to do CPR for 25 minutes until the man was transported to a hospital where he then passed away. Officials have not released the official cause of death. The man’s identity has not been released due to pending notification of the family. The man was also a member of the national guard. The pool was closed all weekend for reasons that are unknown. It was reopened today at 5:00 a.m.
