West Valley Animal Shelter in need of help

West Valley’s animal shelter located at 4522 W 3500 is in need of serious help; they have over 90 dogs and not as many kennels. This is such a heartbreaking thing because dogs get fostered and adopted and they get returned back like Chandler who is a shepherd and husky mix who got returned for “barking at another dog in petsmart” which is honestly so heartbreaking and truly messed up. These dogs can seem super different in their kennels but all they need is a home where they can be loved and feel secure and they will be so different from who they are at the shelter. I know sometimes people may think the better option is to just buy a puppy but there are so many cons to adopting a dog from a shelter. All of these dogs are well trained and are up to date on all their shots and this is all because of the volunteers and workers at the shelter. One of the biggest cons of adopting a dog is that it is the cheaper option than buying a puppy and the biggest con is that you’re saving a dog who just wants to be in a secure home. They also have fostering options if you’re not sure of adoption and that helps just as much as adopting.

I know a lot of us in highschool aren’t old enough to adopt a dog or can’t take all the responsibility of adopting one but, if you happen to know someone who is looking to get a dog please tell them that adopting is the best option. The West Valley shelter needs a lot of help and if you don’t want to adopt or you can’t and still want to help there are many ways you can help. You can find them on instagram @westvalleyanimalshelterut here they have a linktree where you can find their website and gofundme or even sharing their post to your social media helps a lot. You can go to their website, facebook, and instagram to find all the adoptable animals if you or someone you know is interested.

Brenda Hernandez, Staff Writer
My name is Brenda. I am a senior here at Hunter High School. This is my second year attending Hunter. I attended Cyprus for my freshman and sophomore year. I'm looking forward to graduating and continuing school to get an associate's degree in medical sonography. Some of my favorite things to do include being with my family, reading, drawing and painting, doing my makeup, and being with my little sister. I've always been into writing and reading. English has always been my favorite subject in school. I've always liked reading the stories we get assigned or writing assignments and that is why I took journalism. One thing I wish for is to get to know more by the end of the year; more about what journalism is about and making sure the people who are interested in it take it.
