Two dead one injured after fatal plane crash in Provo

This Tuesday, a devastating plane crash near Provo, Utah, claimed the lives of two men and injured one. 26-year-old Evan Backers and 23-year-old Collin Niemela allegedly died upon impact, while the survivor was discovered walking near the location of the crash. This survivor, a 22-year-old man from Springfield, was deemed “very, very fortunate” by Sgt. Spencer Cannon of the Utah County Sheriff’s Office. The discovery of this survivor gave law enforcement “hope” that other survivors would be found, when unfortunately, no others would be. He was airlifted to the Utah Valley Hospital in Provo, where he is being treated for his injuries. Officials are unsure what the purpose of the flight was, but some possibilities are “sight-seeing” and “pilot training.” The cause of the crash is also unknown at this time.

About the Contributor
Samantha Sorensen, Staff Writer
Hi! My name is Samantha Sorensen and I am a sophomore at Hunter High School. Some things I like to do for fun are hang out with friends and family, watch movies, and go shopping. My interest for journalism started when I took a speech and debate class during my freshman year of high school. I discovered that I like arguing a point and trying to make a change, but I didn't like the competition. I feel that because of this, Journalism is a better fit for me, because I can write influential stories and prove a point but without the competition and arguing, and so far I am really enjoying this class. This school year I am looking forward to meeting new people and learning new things, and I am hoping to broaden my horizons in journalism.
