Hunter basketball 2017-18 2nd quarter season report

Hunter’s varsity men’s team has once again played 5 games, and with there being only 21 games on schedule that means the season is halfway over. This go around we once again went 1-4. Losses to Herriman, Skyridge , Hillcrest in double overtime, and Kearns, in a game was close until the end when Kearns kind of ran away for an 11 point win. We beat Taylorsville 57-40, for our second win of the season.

Jimmy Harding went off during this stretch of games, his most impressive being against Taylorsville, and Hillcrest, where he had 30 points and 12 rebounds and 30 points and 13 rebounds respectively. He also scored 12,17,and 21 in the other three games, averaging 22 points over the stretch and 19.3 in six games this season. He is also bringing in a team leading 7.2 rebounds a game. The second leading scorer and rebounder is Emmanual Mulibea with 7.5 points and 5.3 rebounds per game.

With there still being 11 games to be played and we are currently 2-8, its not impossible for us to get back to close to .500 but, it will still be more difficult than after just 5 games. The next 5 games are up against Granger, Copper Hills, Cyprus, Hillcrest, and Kearns. Granger, Copper Hills, and Kearns are all road games winning one or two of these would be key. Maybe keeping close with Kearns gave our team some confidence and we can go and do well in region play. Right now however all we have to worry about is Granger and take it one game at a time.
