First Lady will visit Hunter High

January 16th, United States First Lady Jill Biden will be visiting Hunter High School. Alongside her will be the U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy and the Utah First Lady Abby Cox. They will be meeting with our teachers and staff from 2:30-3:30 PM, creating a small change of schedule for students throughout the day.

Classes will be a little bit shorter tomorrow, to accommodate for an earlier release time. Period 1-b will start at 7:30 AM per usual, and end at 8:47 AM. Period 2-B will begin at 8:52 AM, ending at 10:15 AM. There will only be one lunch tomorrow, combining our typical 1st and 2nd lunches. This lunch will be held after your typical 2-B class ends, at 10:15 AM. Lunch will be 45 minutes long, ending at 11:00 AM sharp. Your 3-B class will begin after lunch ends, and finish at 12:22 PM. The last period of the day will start at 12:27, and school will let out at 1:45, 25 minutes earlier than usual.

There will also be some unusual restrictions put in place due to the nature of the event. Principal Ryan Oaks and other staff ask that all students exit the building immediately after school ends, at 1:45 PM, and that the hallways and parking lots be cleared by 2 PM. There will also be no students allowed in the commons area after lunch ends. There are no exceptions to either of these restrictions.

For any more information on tomorrow’s event and schedule change, check your school email inbox, and you will find an email from Mr. Oaks that will answer any questions you may have.

About the Contributor
Samantha Sorensen, Staff Writer
Hi! My name is Samantha Sorensen and I am a sophomore at Hunter High School. Some things I like to do for fun are hang out with friends and family, watch movies, and go shopping. My interest for journalism started when I took a speech and debate class during my freshman year of high school. I discovered that I like arguing a point and trying to make a change, but I didn't like the competition. I feel that because of this, Journalism is a better fit for me, because I can write influential stories and prove a point but without the competition and arguing, and so far I am really enjoying this class. This school year I am looking forward to meeting new people and learning new things, and I am hoping to broaden my horizons in journalism.
