August 17, 2023, former president of the United States, Donald J. Trump, was booked into Fulton County Jail in Atlanta, Georgia. It was here that he was fingerprinted and had his mugshot taken, which has since gone viral on social media. He is being charged alongside 18 co-defendants, whom he allegedly worked with, in an attempt to overturn the 2020 election.
Trump allegedly sympathizes with his co-defendants, stating that their “lives are destroyed” by the charges and that they have been “so unfairly dragged into this.” However, when asked if he views himself and his co-defendants as a “team,” he dodged the question and did not give a straight answer. He has also not offered to cover any of the legal costs for those being charged alongside him, despite stating that most of them “don’t have a lot of money, and some of them have almost nothing.”
Following having his mugshot taken, Trump posted on the social media platform “X” for the first time since his original ban on January 8th, 2021, during the riot located at the U.S. Capitol. This post consisted of a photo of his mugshot, captioned “ELECTION INTERFERENCE, NEVER SURRENDER!” with a link to his campaign website, donaldjtrump.com. This post has spread like wildfire across social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram, becoming very popular and recognizable.
