On September 18, singer and songwriter Jason “Jelly Roll” DeFord was performing when he saw a child in the crowd holding a sign and showing off some fake Jelly Roll tattoos she had gotten. The singer, seeing this child, invited her onto the stage to perform “Save Me”. The little girl goes up and immediately gives Jelly Roll a hug, with Jelly Roll saying it’s “the coolest s— ever.” Although the little girl seems somewhat unsure of being in front of loads of people at the concert, no punches were pulled as soon as Lainey Wilson’s part of “Save Me” came up.
This heartwarming display of human affection and kindness, however, is not the first time Jason has shown his selfless character. Earlier this month, in Milwaukee, he brought up a boy by the name of Brantley Gilbert who had been holding up a cardboard sign saying that he could sing Jelly’s verse to “Son of the Dirty South”. Jelly Roll invited the little boy up on stage, and his performance blew away the veteran singer, so much so that he stopped entirely and allowed Brantley to have his moment in the spotlight.
