Respecting essential workers

Xitlali Martinez, Staff Writer

Recently several businesses such as Costco have announced that they will be requiring customers to wear masks if they’ll be entering the store. This stirred up complaints from people across different media groups stating that their liberties and freedoms were being “taken” from them. Making claims such as saying that they’d  “never shop there again” (as if that has a huge impact on big corporations like Costco). It’s not about your political opinions it’s about trying to prevent and slow down the spread of COVID-19 and it’s following the CDC’s guidelines regarding wearing face coverings in areas where social distancing is hard to practice. Those that are having to put their lives at risk daily for your convenience have to keep masks on for hours and have yet to refuse them, having to wear a mask for your quick trip to the store might feel like an inconvenience but frankly it doesn’t matter if you don’t like it. Refusing to wear a mask is just being selfish and disrespectful to the essential workers putting their lives on the line.
