Currently trending across various media platforms is video that resurfaced where 2 white men were seen in the video as one of them fatally shot Ahmaud Arbery, a 25 year old black man, this video just recently went viral despite the killing having happened in February. The details of the killing and the fact that no arrests had been made in months led to a spread of outrage and protest nationwide. Ahmaud was out jogging when these two men supposedly believed him to be the suspect from a string of nearby break ins and pursued him with guns rather than contacting the authorities. There’s no doubt in my mind that this murder was pre-meditated and unjust. There are those who are defending the killers and using Ahmaud’s PAST as justification for what happened. Suspicions have arisen regarding the case because one of the men involved in the murder has connections to local law enforcement. Had this video not gotten the attention it received these men would’ve continued to live freely. After months since this killing these men were finally arrested and charged in connection with the shooting. What happened February 23, the tragic day that Ahmaud was murdered, and what followed suit is just another example of racial inequities within the justice system.
