Roberto Gómez Bolaños

Roberto Gómez Bolaños, that’s a name that not many of you will know about or know who it is. Mexicans probably won’t even know who that is, until you tell them that he was “El Chavo Del Ocho”. Then many of them most likely know. Roberto was a famous actor that played a character named Chavo in the TV show “El Chavo Del Ocho”. It was only on the air for 9 years from 1971-1980. But it was really popular with Mexicans. Mexican kids now will probably have heard of the show, whether it’s cause their parents still watch it (like mine do from time to time) or because they stumbled upon it on the internet somehow. The show was a comedy, as you can imagine a TV show back then wasn’t that great of quality but it still made people laugh.
Another TV show that Bolaños was recognized for was “El Chapulín Colorado”. In this show Gómez played a superhero who was funky and created more problems than solving them. The show as you can probably tell was also a comedy.
Bolaños was an icon in many Mexican homes in the early 1980’s and 1990’s. Now he is still an icon in many Mexican homes, but sadly he’s not as popular as he was back in the days, but he is still recognized. I recommend watching those shows but if you don’t understand Spanish then it might not be as funny to you as it is to people who understand Spanish. Today [as I write this], February 21, 2020, it’s Gómez’s birthday. Sadly he’s dead. But if he was still alive he would’ve been 91. He died back in 2014.
