Eliminating letter grades

On February 12, a bill to eliminate letter grades had passed committee, again. Now personally, I don´t see why there is a need to change. If we had letter grades for so long, why would we change it? The change may throw people off at first, and I understand that we will end up getting used to the change after sometime, but if it´s not necessary why change it?  This is not just about the parents though, what about the students? The sudden change of letters to numbers may confuse them, though I guess if we start mentioning to them, it won be as bad, but still? What´s the point? It might be easier for them to calculate or us on a spreadsheet, but wont it be a bit harder to make sure everyone´s understanding it?
