Gage Versteeg, Sports Editor

The girls started their region games and got off to a hot start. They went 4-1 in the five games and sit atop of the region. They beat Granger, Cyprus, West Jordan and Kearns. The lone loss was to Taylorsville in a close 56-54 game. They averaged 50.2 points per game scoring and gave up just 35.6 points per game. They now sit at 10-7 and 4-1 in region play.

Angel Lui was the leading scorer as she averaged 11 points in four of the five games played. The leading scorer to play in all five was Nevaeh Brown, who averaged 9.8 points per game. Kaydence Brown averaged a good eight points per game as well. Rebounding wise the leader was also Nevaeh Brown who averaged 7.4 per game including 15 in a game in the region opener versus Granger. Justine Aiono and Angle Lui each got five and 4.75 per game respectively.

This season has been a really good one and the girl’s team has a chance to win the region with five more good games. Just like the boys, they will play each region opponent one more time with the season ending on February 13th. Winning region would be huge and give us great seeding come playoff time. We have been hanging in the top 15 and even top 12 of the 6A RPI most of the season and is most likely where we will be come time for the final RPI on February 15th.
