Super Bowl LIV preview
January 22, 2020
The first weekend of February is the home of the biggest sporting event in the country each year, the Super Bowl. This year’s rendition of the classic game has the American Football Conference (AFC) champion Kansas City Chiefs taking on the National Football Conference (NFC) champion San Francisco 49ers. This is the third super bowl appearance and their first since 1970. For the 49esr’sĀ it’s their seventh super bowl and first since 2013. Kansas City is looking for it’s second ever win while the 49er’s are going for their record-tying sixth super bowl win.
Kansas City finished the season 12-4 and the AFC’s second-seed. They beat the Houston Texans in the divisional round 51-3, after falling behind 24-0. And they beat the Tennessee Titans in the conference championship round. They are led by Quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who won the NFL MVP last season. They have a very very high powered offense. As seen in the playoffs, no deficitĀ is too big for the Chiefs to overcome.
San Francisco finished the year 13-3 and they were the NFC’s one-seed. They beat the Minnesota Vikings in the divisional round and Green Bay Packers in the conference championship game. They are lead by a stellar defense that helped them turnaround from a 4-12 season last year. They have a defense that could slow down Kansas City and we will have to see if they have the offense to give them a good lead.
This game will be offense vs defense match up. History gives advantage to defense, but this Chiefs offense is something that we have never seen. They can be unstoppable at times, while the 49ers defense is not an all time great like in other previous match ups of top offense and top defense, such as in 2014 the Denver Broncos, and one of the best offense’s ever, against the Seattle Seahawks, who had an all time great defense. The Seahawks won that game handily. No matter who wins, I expect a good-hard fought game.
