Acknowledging impeachment

Xitlali Martinez, Staff Writer

Impeachment is the process by which a legislative body levels charges against a government official. In simpler terms it means charges of misconduct or high crimes are placed on a holder of public office (ex.presidents) and then is further investigated to determine consequences. Currently the U.S. is undergoing an impeachment inquiry announced by Nancy Pelosi against President Trump. The current youth population isn’t educated enough on the subject as much as they should be, neither are the rest of the American citizens, being that they’re given a right to know they need to take advantage of this opportunity. The impeachment inquiry opened up against Trump is “long overdue” according to many U.S. citizens as he has committed various criminal acts of abuse of power. The current impeachment is investigating a phone call between Trump and President Zelensky, the president of Ukraine, where they are discussing Trump providing military aid to Ukraine. In this phone call Trump proposes some form of quid pro quo where he will relinquish the military aid if President Zelensky opens up an investigation on Joe Biden and his son Hunter’s involvement on the board of Burisma Holdings, a major Ukranian natural gas producer. Having the Bidens investigated is toying with the 2020 election being that Trump is running against Biden. According to a local public school teacher, Trump’s “request” was a demand rather than a favor because Trump was withholding aid that had been  pre-approved by Congress. An interview was then conducted with said local public school teacher about Trump and the current impeachment inquiry..

Interviewer: “Would you consider Trump guilty of a crime, if so what crime(s)?

Interviewee: “Trump is guilty of numerous crimes and its difficult to name them all, but a few examples would be bribery, extortion, and tax evasion”

Interviewer: “What will happen if Trump is impeached?”

Interviewee: “Democracy will survive”

Interviewer: “If the House votes to impeach but the Senate does not vote to remove Trump from office what will happen next?”

Interviewee: “Chaos, it will be extremely damaging to the U.S. if he stays in office any longer”

Interviewer: “Is Giuliani’s involvement unethical being that he is a personal lawyer and not a government official?”

Interviewee: “H*ll yeah it is, he should not be involved in foreign policy because citizens did not vote for him”

Interviewer: “How accurate do you believe the transcript of the call between Trump and the President of Ukraine was?”

Interviewee: “Anything coming out of the White House could have easily been tampered with”

Interviewer: “How would Trump testifying be deleterious for him?”

Interviewee: “You will go to jail if you lie under oath so for Trump who is constantly lying and making false claims this is bad news”
