Schools staying open later

Kids across the United States will be spending a lot more time in school if a new bill is passed. Kamala Harris has recently introduced the idea of keeping schools open later. She does this in attempt to line up the parents work day with the child’s school hours. Harris calls this bill, the “Family Friendly School Act” that would keep around 500 schools in the United States in session until 6 PM. If this bill is passed schools will be within the hours of at least 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM Monday through Friday. With the exception of federal holidays, emergencies, and weekends.

Harris justified the bill by saying , “My mother raised my sister and me while working demanding, long hours… So, I know firsthand that, for many working parents, juggling between school schedules and work schedule is a common cause of stress and financial hardship. But, this does not have to be the case.” This is making some people upset. People have been very public on social media to say that trying to turn schools into full time baby sitters is not the answer. Most kids don’t like school and won’t want to be there for 10 hours a day.

Although this is upsetting some, many people are very hopeful. Parents working long hours really hope this bill will pass due to the idea that they will no longer have to worry about paying daycare’s, or baby sitters. “Children are left at home so often without parental guidance, and now these children will finally get it” says a mother of four.  Now we all wait to hear weather or not the “Family Friendly School Act” will be passed, and if it will really help out families has much as most are hoping it too.
