Thanksgiving break
November 6, 2019
Thanksgiving break is coming up, and there’s no better way to spend it than sitting around a table with warm food and enjoying the company of family. This year’s Thanksgiving might be one of the coldest yet due to the weather in October, so make sure to bundle up in warm coats and scarves. A lot of people can agree that Thanksgiving may be one of the best holiday’s because the family gets together and everyone enjoys each other’s company. Thanksgiving may not be celebrated world wide, but in America it’s a historical holiday such as the 4th of July. This holiday is one that many Americans celebrate. Student Ivana Sanchez explained her family’s joy, “My parents are from another country, but we still celebrate Thanksgiving. I think that Thanksgiving is for anyone who enjoys having other people’s company and talking about everyone’s achievements. To me, Thanksgiving is about getting together and just being happy about getting to see each other.”
The traditional food for Thanksgiving usually consists of a turkey, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, corn, and bread rolls. However, some like to add their own touch to this holiday. For example, some Mexican parents may celebrate Thanksgiving, but instead of having a turkey, they make pozole which is a traditional stew or soup in Mexico. It has hominy and meat and can be topped with cabbage, radish, and lime. There is no correct way to celebrate Thanksgiving, as long as family is together. That is all that matters. Some people like to donate money or food to shelters or help out in community service. One thing is for sure, Thanksgiving is about giving. It could either be a large amount of money, or pay a meal for someone, but it can make someone’s day better. It’s about the joy of seeing the happiness on someone’s face, about the feeling of happiness you get when you help somebody out. Either ways Thanksgiving is all about spreading love to one another and enjoying the company of loved ones.
