Daylight savings
November 4, 2019
We’re approaching winter and that means daylight savings is here. We all set our clocks back an hour and get to sleep just a little longer. On Sunday November 3 the clocks reset to 1:00 AM at 2:00 AM. We all got to sleep for an extra hour as well as the sun coming up what seemed to be sooner. The sun started to rise around 7:00 am this morning and will set around 5:00 tonight. As it gets darker sooner it might be hard to adjust for some but most people seem to enjoy it.
Students walking to school specifically get an advantage with this. With school starting at 7:30 am most students would have to start walking around 6:45 or 7:00 AM to make it on time or even a little early. Normally it would be extremely dark outside and dangerous for any student needing to cross the street. Now that the sun is coming up around 7:00 AM it is just in time for students to walk safety. Along with that, some of them have said that it fells like it’s even gotten a little warmer.
The sun will set around 5:00-5:30 PM and this is gonna be the part most people don’t like. Little kids may be used to going to bed as soon as it gets dark outside, and then having a specific time to wake up, well now it will get dark around 5:00 meaning they’re wanting to go to bed earlier. With them going to bed earlier the only option is waking up earlier. Students with work usually go after school. Here at Hunter High we get out at 2:10. The sun setting at 5:00 pm gives you less than 3 hours of daylight while at work, and most usually work longer than 3 hours. Students driving home in the dark could get a little dangerous, but we’re all hoping we will all quickly adjust and not have to change our routines too much.
