Hunter’s great season came to end against Kearns
November 4, 2019
The second round of the 6A playoffs started and Hunter was having to face a tough opponent against the fifth-seeded Kearns High School Cougars. Kearns gave us one of our two losses earlier in the season and it was an opportunity to not only get revenge and avenge our defeat but move to the state quarterfinals. The game started out good and we had a 14-10 halftime lead. However, Kearns shut us out in the second half and won 31-14.
Quarterback Daisean Cash finished eight of 15 passing for 189 yards and two touchdowns (TD) and threw one interception (INT). He also had 68 yards on eight rushes. Running back Saia Lomu had his best rushing game of the season. He had a team high in both rushes, 21, and yards, 134. Ofa Lokotui had 12 yards on four rushes, and Jordan Tupea had eight yards on five rushes. Nate Suaste lead the team in both catches and yards with four and 88 respectively, and a TD. Jordan Tupea had two catches for 36 yards. Taylor Savage and Lorenzo Tuaone each had one catch for 33 and 32 yards. Tuaone’s catch was a TD catch.
The defense was solid despite the 31 points given up, Kearns only had 11 first downs during the game. Lorenzo Tuaone had a sack, good for his ninth on the season. Sousa Moea’i got his fifth (and a half) sack on the season as well, while Loni Tatafu got his second pick of the year.
Despite the season being over it truly was a great season, our best win wise in a decade. Good luck to Kearns as they take on Lone Peak in the quarterfinals. As for Hunter, let’s get ready to have another great season in 2020.
