School shootings

On Tuesday May 7 at Highlands Ranch Stem school, two assailants entered the school. One was apprehended before they could cause any harm, and one went into his English class and intended to hurt who knows how many students.

There were multiple students harmed but one student by the name of Kendrick Castillo was the first to lunge himself at the gunman was shot and killed in the process, but his bravery gave the students in the room a few seconds to take cover or rush the gunman. A cluster of other boys tackled the student with the gun and gave Ms. Giasolli (the teacher) and the other students the opportunity to escape the classroom.

A few days before Riley Howell, age 21, charged a gunman who burst last week into a University of North Carolina-Charlotte lecture room carrying a pistol. He to lost his life to save others during the terrible event. It is horrible that these types of incidents even have to occur, yet awesome knowing there are people, students, willing to risk their own lives to save their classmates and whoever else may be brought to harm. Obviously it isn’t the best [personal safety] decision and they don’t want you in danger. But think of the Columbine shooting. The Columbine High School massacre was a school shooting that happened on April 20, 1999, at Columbine High School in Columbine, Colorado. The two shooters killed 13 and injured 20 more. Police and SWAT will not always be there as soon as the incident occurs and it is a sad but good thing that their are students willing to risk their lives to save so many others.
