Utah legislators and the education fund
March 19, 2019
There is an extra billion dollars in the education fund. The legislators in Utah are trying to spend the education money on new roads and and other funding.
The problem is that Utah is already really low in education spending. It actually ranks 50th in the United States and very far behind is Idaho at 49th. (Utah is rated 1st in roads.) Teachers are the lowest paid in the country as well. They don’t get paid much for teaching young minds to live successfully, yet legislators wish to spending education money on something that we don’t lack of or isn’t a necessary. It is a bad idea. It makes no sense. There is no crisis, no reason.
For more than thirty years education has lacked funding. We should actually spend this money on education. The general fund is drained partly because of the $600 million dollar a year subsidy for fossil fuels and roads. So Utah is number 50 in education spending, and number 1 in roads spending. Where are the priorities.
