Around 12:30 a.m., on January 20, 2019, there was patrolling in the area of 4700 South and 5200 West when a red Honda Civic committed a traffic violation and the officer tried to pull the car over. The driver took off. When the police car tried to block the car, the Civic hit the police car. According to Lt. Toddy Gray, there were three men in the car when they got stuck in the snow and fled the scene on foot. All three of them were caught hiding in three different backyards but were caught thanks to the K-9 unit. Ryan Anthony Hansen was the driver and already had a criminal record, so the police are glad they caught him.
