Hunter High hired Jason Long to be the new Varsity boy’s basketball coach. He has experience in both high school and college levels. Before coming to Hunter he taught and was the head coach at Wasatch High. He lead them to two 4A  state tournaments in the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons. After transitioning to 5A before the 2017-18 season, Wasatch was still able to be consistent and made it into a Region 8 play-in game. For the 2015-16 season, Coach Long was one of four finalists for 4A coach of the year.

He also was a assistant coach for Westminster College for the both the women’s and men’s teams. He was a coach for the women’s team for three years and the men’s from 2004-2009, and had a second stint from 2011-2013. While completing his masters, he was a assistant coach for Highland for two seasons. One of which the team went 22-3 and won the 4A state title in 2010-2011.

Since 2003, he has been involved in youth AAU. He was head coach of the 16U Utah Basketball Club Elite that was one of the top teams in the West in 2013. At one point in 2013, the team had the number one national ranking after winning tournaments in Las Vegas and Los Angeles.

Long married his wife Stacy back in 2013. They have three children, two of which were adopted, in Carter and Max. Their only daughter Abigail was born in 2014. Its exciting to see what he will do to the program and see if we can have the success some of his other teams have had.
