Welcoming the class of 2022

Are you excited for this 2017-2018 school year to be over. I am sure you are, and you should be. You should feel very proud to be moving on and getting closer to reaching your goals in life and for getting even closer to graduation. As we say goodbye to the seniors (class of 2018), our juniors become seniors (class of 2019), our sophomores become juniors (class of 2020), and our freshman become sophomores (class of 2021) we welcome the new comers (freshman).

66 days left of this school year, then after summer we welcome the new comers, wow how exciting. Even if you are one of those people who don’t think so, you should still be welcoming. Think back on how you felt as an upcoming freshman. Going into a new school, and a bigger school at that. Being with so many new people and having to learn the ways of the halls. Being afraid to ask for help because you’re scared of being made fun of, or even laughed at for not knowing where you’re going.

We all know that’s not how it actually is, but those are some of the fears that go through most upcoming freshman’s minds. We all know how it is, we know how scary it can feel at first, so we need to be welcoming. If you see that one of them are lost, or are having issues getting from point A to point B, you should be willing to help. Show them around, you know what the school is like. You know the halls, especially those of you who have been here more that a couple of years.

So let’s get ourselves and our school ready for these new comers. Encourage them to be in clubs and participate in things happening around the school. No matter how “mature” or “immature” some of them may be, and no matter how “annoying” you think they are, never make them feel lost or unwelcome. In a matter of fact, don’t make anybody feel like that. Hunter high is full of so many amazing young adults, that everybody should always feel welcome, no matter their differences.
