Opinions about the walkout

Sarah Potja, staff writer

As we know a national walkout occurred March 14, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. It happened at high schools all around Utah including Hunter. As 10:00 came, students all over the country would participate in the walkout if they felt it was right, as others, well.. they definitely did not like the idea at all. Here are what students had to say about this. We are not able to ask teachers about it and they are not supposed to share their input on this event. Please be considerate as these students are to remain anonymous.

Student 1:  ” The walkout was supposed to be 17 minutes for the victims of the shooting but turned into, arguing about gun safety in school and if, “Guns kill people or if people kill people.” ”

Student 2: ” My teacher would not let me or any other students out of the classroom and if we left to participate we would be marked absent.”

Isn’t this supposed to be a choice? To have freedom of speech of protest and to have that taken away some students were not happy. At the Hunter High School walkout songs were sang, tears were shed in remembrance of those lives which were taken in Parkland. It shows how much Hunter Wolverines could put each others differences asides and come together as one to support people no matter how far the distance standing together to prevent these things from happening again.
