How our school district addresses bullying prevention

Kalissa Kennedy, staff writer

Bullying is never okay anywhere, or anytime. Although it still occurs every single day. It drags our students down, and makes school a dreaded place. Parents send their kids to school hoping for a safe, academic environment. For some they may never feel that desired safety. What is our school district doing about it?

Recently, when I was visiting Granite School District’s website, I found an article on bully prevention. It goes on to say, “The Granite School District is committed to protecting students from all forms of bullying. Granite School District students have the right to a safe, caring, and respectful learning environment in which all students can realize their maximum potential and fully engage in the learning process. Our goal is to raise awareness of bullying as an unacceptable form of behavior prevention and to have measures in place to deal with bullying behavior when it occurs intervention.”

This really shows that our district cares about all students well being. They even have websites fro students and parents to visit that explains our strict no bullying policy, and some that explain bullying. I suggest taking time to talk to your kids about how their school day goes. Sit down with them and make sure they know that they can always come to you if things at school are hard.

Students, if you don’t feel comfortable going to your parent, go to your counselor. They can be a huge help since they are here at school when you are. If even the counselors are too much, tell a trusted teacher, or even a friend. Just tell somebody. Nobody deserves to deal with bullying on their own, let alone at all.
