Hunter basketball 2017-18 3rd Quarter season report

Gage Versteeg, Sports Editor

The Wolverines’ varsity men’s team have now played about 75% of their scheduled games and that means another quarter season report. Unfortunately this go around we went 0-5. Losses to Granger, Copper Hills, Cyprus, Hillcrest, and Kearns. We are currently in the middle of a seven game losing streak so anything right now would be an improvement.

During those five games we had several players have good games. Jimmy Harding had a 22-point and 12-rebound game against Granger and a 23-point 13-rebound performance versus Kearns. Daisean Cash had a 19-point game in the 65-64 loss to Cyprus. Emmanuel Mulibea and Sione Folahoula’s 11 and 13 points against Cyprus were also good performances. Jimmy Harding has only played 11 games and they have been pretty good as he leads the team with 17.8 points per game and 8.1 points per game. Emmanuel Mulibea has been one of our best players to play in all 15 games. He averages 7.5 points and 4.9 rebounds which are both second on the team behind only Jimmy. His 1.1 steals and 0.6 blocks per game lead the team. Other key contributors are Daisean Cash and Jonathon Tonumaipea who chip in 6.7 and 6.0 points respectively.

We are now down to the homestretch with the next six games being the last six. There is no real chance to turn the season around but I still hope we can win a few more games and have some positive things about this season. We only play regional opponents including two games against both Granger and Cyprus with both having a home game and a road game. We also play at Hillcrest and host Kearns. If we can win 2 or even all 3 of those home games it would be something special and show that through thick and thin we never gave up.
