Granite School District in the pandemic

COVID-19 has caused district support for Hunter to drop rapidly. Last school year during the burden of the pandemic students had access to a clean, safe school environment thanks to the district. Now, as we’ve come back a lot of this aid is missing. These benefits included things like easily accessible masks, regular classroom sanitizing, and multiple social distancing opportunities. These opportunities included staggered release from class, the choice of online school, and assigned seating for contact tracing.

As of late teachers have also had issues with the district pulling back. In an interview had with the French teacher, Mr. Bennett, when asked if he felt like we were gaining or losing district support he said, “It feels like it’s lessening. It might not actually be lessening, but it kind of feels like it.”  Although COVID-19 is still relevant and spreading, the district is being more lenient in students not being vaccinated and/or not wearing adequate face coverings. Later in the interview Mr. Bennett was asked about when it started to feel as if the district wasn’t supporting us in pandemic safety. He responded, “As we’ve come back into the school year, it has felt difficult. It feels like a lot of the pandemic support isn’t there.” Before anyone should feel safe coming back to school the district needs to step up and support the schools through this pandemic because it doesn’t seem like COVID-19 is leaving anytime soon.
