Vaping in school

Elizabeth Poole, Staff Writer

There is a big problem with vaping in schools now. A law to try to stop this cause was even issued by Trump. Police and other authorities are seeing more and more teenagers doing this. The law used to be 18 years old or older but that was changed. Now you must be 21 or older to purchases tobacco and vaping products. There are still some problems in schools about the whole vaping thing. Students are going as far as purchasing things like watches to try to hide vaping; they may seem like a watch but are actually a vape. Some students struggle in school or even at home with these things. It can be extremely easy to get a hold of vapes and other things in that category.

Some people can easily get on their phone and purchase an item because they are not having to show an ID. It very easy for them to find other ways around this so vaping is still a problem in school. My experience I have smelled it on some students, also have seen teenagers do it in the bathrooms, and even in the classroom. But they were trying to make it less noticeable that they were doing it, yet I was becoming more aware of how many people at school are vaping and smoking.

So, I think it a cause that should make people more aware because it very serious. Teenagers will do it with their friends, but they could be feeling the need to do this because they don’t want to be different. But whatever the cause we should try to help. Anyone can help, not just authorities. Other students and teachers can make everyone more aware of all the things vaping can cause. Also, smoking tobacco products can really be harmful to a student’s health.

It’s a really big deal, but we can all impact someone. Vaping is known for nicotine that can be very addictive and can also cause the brain to slow. This can affect memory, learning, self-control, attention and even the mood you’re in. Vaping can also cause some later problems like getting addicted to other products or items. So it is best to watch out. It can be very hard for some teens, but they all have started somewhere, and people want to help end it.
