Hunter boy’s basketball third quarter season report

Gage Versteeg, Sports Editor

The boy’s basketball team started it’s region play this last five games. They went 1-4 in the first five region games. They beat Granger in the region opener and lost to West Jordan, Cyprus, Taylorsville, and Kearns. We scored an average of 51.4 points per game over the five games and gave up 60 points per game. They now sit at 5-12 on the season. We currently sit in fifth in region.

Josh Harding was the leading scorer averaging 11 points in the four games (there was no stats for the West Jordan game). He scored 15 against both Granger and Cyprus and now averages 9.4 points on the year. DaiSean Cash averaged 10.25 and continues to lead the team on the season as a whole with 12.8 per game. Nate Suaste scored 12 points but only played in two games. He scored 17 on Granger and 7 on Cyprus. Nate Suaste lead the team with eight rebounds per game in his two games. Other people chipped in such as Darius Jackson with 3.75 per game, Josh Harding with 3.5, and Tietjen Montano with 3.25.

Despite a somewhat rough start there is still time to finish the season out strong. We play each team one more time and have a chance to finish higher than fifth in a six team region. We currently are the 26th in the RPI rankings and would face seventh-seeded Westlake if the season was to end today. We still have time to build up some spots and play a different opponent come the end of the season.
