The 2019 football season has come to an end and Hunter had it’s best season in a decade. We went 8-3, and 5-2 in region play (During the regular season we went 5-1, the second lose was to Kearns in the playoff). We doubled our wins from last season, from four to eight. In the past two season we combined for eight wins, four in both 2018 and 2017. The first playoff win since 2014 and the most wins in a season since 2009, when we finished 8-4. The season came to an end sadly in the second round of the 6A playoffs to region foe Kearns.

Offensively we averaged over 30 points per game, 30.3 to be exact. Including scoring 30+ points six times, 40 twice, and a season high 57 against Copper Hills in the first round of the playoffs. We had a balanced offense, averaging 195.1 passing yards per game, and 191.5 rushing yards per game.

Quarterback DaiSean Cash threw for 2137 yards, 22 touchdowns (TDs) and nine interceptions (INTs). He finishes his amazing career as a three-year starter here at Hunter with 6620 passing yards, 69 TDs and 34 INTs to go along with 1005 rushing yards and 18 rushing TDs. Rushing wise was balanced as we had (almost) three players rush for 5oo yards. Cash lead the team with 645 yards and 12 TDs, including two 100+ yard games. Jordan Tupea had 638 yards and seven TDs, with his own two games eclipsing 100 yards. Saia Lomu had 498 yards and five TDs. Ofa Lokotui had 260 yards and two TDs. Nate Suaste had an amazing season at receiver, he had 49 catches, 852 yards, and 14 TDs. The TD amount was good enough for seventh in the entire state and second in all of 6A, his yards were good enough for ninth in 6A. Wyatt Swanty was second in all three categories with 27 catches, 291 yards, and two TDs. Taylor Savage was third in all three, with 18 catches, 247 yards, and a TD. Jordan Tupea, Xandre Hill, Lorenzo Tuaone, and Saia Lomu all had over 100 yards with 171, 158, 125, and 108 respectably.

On defense, we gave up 21.7 points per game. We had three games where we allowed less than 10 points, eight against Clearfield, seven against Taylorsville, and six against Granger. We only gave up 30+ points three times, compared to our offense who averaged that much per game. We had 31.0 sacks and 16 interceptions on the season, the sacks are down compared to last season, 37.0 to 31.0, but we almost tripled the interceptions from last year, 6 to 16.

Lorenzo Tuaone lead the team with 9.0 sacks. He has 24.0 career sacks in just two season, and will be back next year to cause trouble for the QB yet again. He also picked up a team high three fumbles. Sousa Moea’i had 5.5 sacks. Taunu’u Brown had 4.5, and SBO President Kiwi Tuivaiti had 3.5. Defensive Back Loni Tatafu had 2.0, the most of a non linemen or linebacker. Lucius Asiasiga, Latu Sotele, Ofa Lokotui, and Tavian Anderson all had 1.0. Huni Tauteoli had half a sack as well.  Dallas Brown and Wyatt Swanty led the team with three interceptions (INT). Ofa Lokotui had two, both against Granger, Gideon Pauni had two INTs, one to seal the win against West Jordan and another was a pick-six against Copper Hills. Clayton Spotten, and Loni Tatafu each had two. While Omarion Jackson and Lucius Asiasiga each had one.

Overall it was a great season, we will miss our seniors who worked so hard to make this season so great. Good luck to all those graduating, and those who are coming back, lets have next season be even better.
