Three Mexican urban legends

Ivana Sanchez, Staff Writer

Hunter High is going to put on a play on the three most famous Mexican legends; La Llorona, El Cucuy, and La Zacatecana. La Llorona is a story about a mother who mourns for her dead children and as the legend goes she steals children to see if it is hers, but when she notices they’re are not hers she kills them. El Cucuy is a scary legend about a creature who kidnaps children who don’t behave themselves often parents say ” Behave or el Cucuy will come for you” and when darkness falls, he comes. As the legend of the Zacatecana goes it is said that in the  seventeenth century, Zacatecana had her husband killed and then killed the executor of the murder and La Zacatecana finally had a well-deserved payment for her crimes, for a short time afterwards she was murdered, but no one knew who was the author of that revenge. These were one of the most common legends that were told to many Mexican kids, especially when they were acting badly.
