Why school food is so bad

Agustin Mariscal, Staff Writer

For the years that I have been in school, the school lunch has always been so trash. I would lose my appetite when eating school lunch, mostly in elementary. For the two years that I was in junior high I would never eat school lunch, and I kept it the same way until now, my junior year. For the time that I was in elementary I would eat whatever they served in the cafeteria because that was the only way I could eat besides my house, and being seven hours in school I needed to eat something. In other articles I have seen them compare school food to jail food: just imagine other articles comparing the food to jail, I would be embarrassed at that. I’m not saying to serve us a five star meal, but to put the food above average not below. Here in Hunter Highs School we have enough money to build a brand new hallway yet not enough to give us students better meals. A couple of years back I was with some friends and he was taking a sip of his milk, couple seconds later he spits it right out checks the label and the milk was expired. Ever since that day I have never ever trusted the food that the school give out.

I am not trying to throw any shade at the workers that make us the food, more so the district that doesn’t want to invest a bit of money to give more pleasant food than the nasty things they are give out. I have heard that eating this food makes some students sick from their stomach, causing some pain, constipation, diarrhea, and more. From Hunter I would say the only good thing is probably the chicken sandwich they give out. I haven’t personally tried it, but that is the thing that students always try to get when going to get some lunch. Its a shame at what they give us to eat, and I really hope that they do something about it because until then I refuse to eat school lunch.
