Why is press important

Carlos Whitmer, Staff Writer

Freedom of the press will always be a key part of the success of a nation. The press keeps us informed about situations that affect us and other people around the world. This also keeps us aware and in the light of problems that we may have not known about. A country that censors press is scared to have the public find out about what the government is doing. When a government does this, it puts the press in danger.

The press is something we encounter everyday, it’s on everything! It keeps people informed about what is happening around the world and when people are informed, we make better decisions. This is because we can now take in all the information into account and make a decision based off of it.

When the press is censored. It limits what the public knows about what is currently happening. An example of this could be when an incident happened here in a Utah school and it was censored. This caused problems in the way that the story was spread through rumor and rumors can change what actually happened. Censorship usually happens when someone is scared for the public to find out for multiple reasons.

For this reason, the press is in danger. if more people see that no one does anything when the press is censored then it will spread and more people will suffer without a light to shine on their problem. People need to spread the truth in order to keep problems known and from not just disappearing.
