Utah Utes make it to NIT championship game

The Utah Utes beat Western Kentucky Hilltoppers last night to make it into the National Invitational Tournament (NIT) championship game. The score was 69-64 and the game was a close one from start to finish. It had 13 lead changes. Justin Bibbins scored a team high 19 points, Sedrick Barefield had 14 points, and Forward David Collette, who proclaimed that the Utes would win the whole thing before leaving Salt Lake City to head to New York City, had 13 points and seven rebounds. Utah will play Penn State tomorrow in Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Utah’s run started as a two-seed and beat UC Davis in the first round. The second round win over three-seed Louisiana State University (LSU) and quarterfinal win over one-seed St.Mary’s got them to the semifinal game against Western Kentucky.

This is the first time we have been to the NIT final since 1974 and it could be our first time winning it since 1947. The last three times we had been to the NIT before this year resulted in first round losses. In 2017, we lost to Boise State, in 2014, we lost to St. Mary’s, and in 2001 we lost to Memphis.

In NCAA tournament news, 11-seed Loyola-Chicago Ramblers made it to the Final Four and in the meantime  Sister Jean has become an internet celebrity. Three-seed Michigan Wolverines made the Final Four and are probably the hottest team still playing. The other two teams are both one-seeds and those are the Villanova Wildcats, and Kansas Jayhawks. It would be awesome to see Loyola win it but they have an uphill battle but it isn’t called March Madness for nothing. Now my pick to win it all has changed about 7000 times over the last two or so weeks but I think it will be Michigan winning the whole thing. They haven’t lost since February 11th almost three months ago by the time the championship game rolls around. Then again Loyola hasn’t lost since February 3rd, but Michigan has beaten three team ranked in the top ten during their win streak. One thing is for sure you know i’m going to be watching these games when the time comes.
